Recording Methods
Stride offers multiple ways to capture your training data:
Auto-Sync
From Garmin, Wahoo devices
Mobile App
Direct recording with phone
Manual Upload
.FIT, .TCX file uploads
Manual Entry

Auto-Sync from Devices
How Auto-Sync Works
Once connected, activities flow automatically:
- Complete activity on your device
- Save and upload to Garmin Connect/Wahoo
- Stride syncs within 5-15 minutes
- Processing adds metrics and analysis
- Notification when ready to view

In your activity list:
- 🔄 Syncing: Currently importing
- ✅ Synced: Successfully imported
- ⚠️ Warning: Partial data
- ❌ Error: Sync failed
Troubleshooting Sync

- Check device uploaded to Garmin/Wahoo
- Verify integration is connected
- Wait 15 minutes (can be delayed)
- Force sync from dashboard
- Re-authorize if needed
Missing Data
Missing Data
Common causes:
- Sensors not paired during ride
- Device didn’t record all streams
- File corrupted during upload
- Integration permissions changed
Duplicate Activities
Duplicate Activities
If you see duplicates:
- Check you haven’t uploaded manually too
- Disable one integration if using multiple
- Delete duplicate (keeps the best data)
Mobile App Recording
Starting a Recording
Open Stride App
Tap the Stride icon on your phone
Tap Record Button
Large button at bottom center (➕)
Select Activity Type
- Outdoor Ride
- Indoor Ride
- Run
- Other
Wait for Sensors
- GPS lock (outdoor)
- Sensor connections
- Green indicators when ready
Start Recording
Tap START when everything’s connected
During Recording
Screen Information:
- Current metrics (power, HR, speed)
- Elapsed time and distance
- Current lap data
- Zone indicator
Controls:
- Pause: Tap pause icon (auto-pause available)
- Lap: Mark segments manually
- Lock: Prevent accidental stops
- End: Long press to finish
Saving Activities
When finished:
- Stop recording (long press)
- Review summary
- Add details:
- Activity name
- Description/notes
- Perceived effort
- Equipment used
- Save & Upload

Supported File Types

Upload Process
Get Your File
- Download from device
- Export from other platforms
- Locate on computer
Go to Activities
Navigate to Activities page in Stride
Click Upload
Cloud icon in top right
Select File
- Drag and drop
- Or click to browse
- Multiple files supported
Process & Review
- Wait for processing
- Review detected data
- Edit if needed
Common Upload Issues
Files must be under 25MB. Compress large files or split very long activities.
File Problems:
- Wrong format: Convert to .FIT if possible
- Corrupted file: Try exporting again
- Missing data: Check original recording
- Wrong timestamps: Verify device time zone
Manual Entry
For when you don’t have a file:
Basic Information
Required fields:
- Date & Time: When you started
- Duration: Total time
- Activity Type: Ride, run, etc.
- Distance: (optional but recommended)
Additional Data
Optional but valuable:
- Average Power: For TS calculation
- Average HR: Alternative metric
- Elevation Gain: For climbing tracking
- Notes: Weather, how you felt
When to Use Manual Entry
- Forgot to record
- Device failed
- Borrowed bike/equipment
- Group rides without your device
- Trainer without connectivity

Activity Detection
Stride automatically detects type based on:
- Speed patterns
- GPS data (indoor vs outdoor)
- Device type
- File metadata
You can always correct if wrong!
Best Practices
For Quality Data
- Calibrate sensors before important rides
- Start recording before moving
- Check connections in first minute
- Keep device charged for long rides
- Save immediately after finishing
Data Completeness
Priority data streams:
- Power (most important for cycling)
- Heart Rate (backup metric)
- GPS (for mapping/segments)
- Cadence (for efficiency)
- Temperature (context)
Activity Naming
Good naming helps organization:
- ❌ “Morning Ride”
- ✅ “Tempo Intervals - River Loop”
- ✅ “FTP Test - 20min”
- ✅ “Recovery Spin - Post Race”
Privacy Settings
Activity Visibility
Control who sees your activities:
- Visible to all Stride users
- Shows in team feeds
- Appears in segments
- Visible to all Stride users
- Shows in team feeds

- Hidden from public
- Coach can see (if applicable)
- Only you can see
- Excluded from leaderboards
- Still counts for your metrics
Privacy Zones
Create areas where GPS is hidden:
- Go to Settings → Privacy
- Add Privacy Zone
- Set center point (home/work)
- Choose radius (200m-1km)
- Activities auto-hide GPS in zones
Integration with Other Platforms
Strava Upload
If connected, activities:
- Auto-upload to Strava
- Include Stride data
- Match privacy settings
- Sync comments back
TrainingPeaks Export
Export your data:
- Individual .FIT files
- Bulk export option
- Preserves all metrics
- Compatible with most platforms
Tip: Star important activities to easily find them later. Use tags for organization (e.g., “intervals”, “race”, “test”).
